Building a Bright Future: The Inspiring Journey of Declan Smith with are-able SLES Service in Colac
Great news from are-able in Colac! We’re thrilled to share the inspiring story of Declan Smith from Colac, who has achieved incredible success through our NDIS School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) service.
Declan had been gaming in his room for years before his support coordinator referred him to our SLES program. Initially hesitant to work and lacking motivation, Declan slowly built a rapport with our Employment Preparation & Engagement Consultant, Katie Learey, over a period of 12 months.
After trying some work experience at Bunnings, Declan not only excelled in his work experience but also loved it! He impressed the Bunnings staff with his remarkable work ethic and ability to learn quickly. He decided to apply for a job there and was successful!
SLES has had a significant impact on Declan’s confidence, self-esteem, and overall outlook on life. Now, he is working 25 hours per week and has even gained his license. He’s just returned from a holiday in Queensland with his friend and can’t believe how much his life has changed. He’s enjoyed meeting like-minded people, learning employable skills, and feeling like he has a purpose.
When asked about his journey with are-able, Declan said, “I can’t believe this is my life now.”
We’re proud to be a part of Declan’s journey and to provide opportunities for young individuals like him to reach their full potential. Congratulations, Declan!
We hope Declan’s story inspires others and encourages them to explore the fantastic opportunities available through the are-able SLES program. For more information about SLES, contact the team today!
