Our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) has been officially approved—an important step in our ongoing commitment to reconciliation.

At are-able, we aim to create a culturally inclusive and respectful environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who engage with our services and work within our organisation. Our focus is on strengthening relationships, increasing opportunities, and embedding cultural awareness across our work.

Through our Innovate RAP, we will:

  • Build stronger connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Create opportunities for meaningful engagement and participation.
  • Continue developing cultural awareness across our organisation.

We look forward to sharing more about upcoming initiatives and ways to get involved. Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far.

What is a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)?

Reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians to create a more inclusive and equitable society.

While Australia’s history includes dispossession and systemic racism, significant progress has been made. Reconciliation is an ongoing journey that requires continued commitment to ensure equal opportunities and life outcomes for all.

Our RAP is guided by Reconciliation Australia and focuses on five key dimensions:

  • Historical acceptance – Acknowledging past injustices.
  • Race relations – Strengthening respect and relationships.
  • Equality and equity – Ensuring fair opportunities for all.
  • Institutional integrity – Embedding reconciliation in our culture.
  • Unity – Valuing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

With guidance from Reconciliation Australia, are-able aims to achieve its deliverables over a two-year period (January 2025 – January 2027). The proposed timeline serves as a guide, acknowledging that adjustments may be necessary along the way.
