From Pool Attendant to Entrepreneur: Jeremy’s Journey with are-able and MAS National
Jeremy, a 26-year-old resident of Mt Gambier, has always nurtured a passion for video editing. Supported by are-able for the past five years, Jeremy initially secured employment as a pool attendant at a local swimming pool service business in 2021. However, Jeremy’s aspirations went beyond traditional employment—he dreamed of transforming his love for video editing into a self-sustaining business.
In the past six months, with dedicated support from Employment Consultant Matilda Rolley, Jeremy embarked on a new chapter: self-employment. Matilda introduced him to MAS National, one of Mt Gambier’s local Workforce Australia employment agencies, and their Self-Employment Assistance (SEA) program. SEA offers workshops, training, and mentoring to help individuals like Jeremy start and manage small businesses in Australia.
Jeremy has been working closely with his business navigators, Shaun Harris and previously Stephen Chapple, as well as his trainer, Nina Ellis. Together, they provided the tools and guidance needed to build Jeremy’s video editing business from the ground up, enabling him to establish a client base focused on editing marketing videos for local businesses.
As Jeremy reflected on his journey, he shared, “Working with MAS National and are-able has been incredible. Anytime I felt lost, they pointed me in the right direction. Matilda even took me to local businesses to help pitch my services and hand out flyers. It’s given me the confidence to pursue my dreams.”
Although are-able does not have a local Workforce office in Mt Gambier, they have formed strong collaborations with MAS National and other Workforce-contracted businesses, ensuring individuals like Jeremy receive the support they need to succeed.
Jeremy’s story is a powerful example of how partnerships between are-able, MAS National, and the SEA program can open doors for aspiring entrepreneurs. His journey from pool attendant to small business owner demonstrates that with the right support, individuals can turn their passion into a thriving career.
are-able remains committed to breaking down barriers, creating opportunities, and inspiring hope for individuals seeking a path to meaningful employment.
