Cooper’s journey to independence through employment at Swan Hill District Health
Starting a new job can be a daunting experience, but for Cooper Fuller, it was the key to tapping into his full capacity. As a client of Swan Hill Disability Employment Services, Cooper joined are-able directly after school with no prior work experience. However, with the support of his Employment Consultant, Jacki, and a positive attitude, Cooper was able to quickly come out of his shell and set his sights on a fulfilling career.
Jacki worked closely with Cooper to define his career goals and prepare for job interviews, eventually leading to his placement at Swan Hill District Health. The hospital has proven to be an inclusive and supportive employer, offering Cooper a unique role that allows him to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of hospital operations, from running errands to food preparation, cooking, and cleaning.
Accompanying Cooper on his first shift to provide reassurance, Jacki observed first-hand how Cooper’s independence has flourished since. He now has a new-found purpose in life and is excited to use his earnings to save up for a new computer.
“Swan Hill District Health has been an amazing, supportive employer for Cooper and it’s fantastic to see how much he has grown in confidence over the course of his employment,” Jacki said. “His journey is a testament to the transformative power of work and the positive impact that supportive employers can have on an individual’s life,” she said.
