Our business is supporting individuals from all walks of life.  Having employees with lived experience of mental illness and disabilities provides an insight unknown to others.  It is the life experiences of those living in or working within our services that make it the inclusive, diverse and helps create the accepting community we strive for,” Glenn said.

Disability Support Worker Denise Ozols approached are-able in 2019, looking for some assistance to find a new job. are-able suggested Denise as suitable candidate for a role at Kallara last July.

“I chose are-able as my service provider after hearing positive feedback from other are-able clients. Being a mature worker, I was unsure of my prospects, however, in a short space of time are-able spoke to and submitted my resume to several employers on my behalf,” said Denise.

The are-able team spent time getting to know Denise, finding out about her interests, skills, experience and values. The Disability Support Worker role at Kallara transpired at the perfect time. Employment Consultant Luke  Gitsham knew  Denise would be a good fit with the organisation and would receive the necessarysupport in the role.

are-able continues to maintain their support of Denise at Kallara, ensuring she is able to now work in the open labour market independently.

“I’m thrilled the role has been so successful for Denise, seeing her find a meaningful and ongoing role in her chosen career is incredibly rewarding” said Luke.

Owner Glenn is happy that the role has turned out so well for both Kallara and Denise.

“I knew after meeting Denise she’d be an asset to our team. Seeing her great attitude and her desire to help those in our community with disability and mental illness is exactly what we look for in staff,” said Glenn.

Based on the success of Denise’s employment, Glenn continues to liaise with are-able whenever he needs new staff members. As an employer Denise utilises are-able recruitment services to find the right candidate.

“It’s difficult to find staff members who are job-ready, supported, willing and committed.  With so many demands on management within the business, I’m grateful to have are-able to be able to find the right person for the right position,” he said.

Denise hopes to be able to continue working at Kallara until retirement, with her new role providing independence and fulfilment.  The disability employment services Bendigo at are-able are open for current jobseekers.

“Along with a regular income, Kallara Care is a workplace with supportive Management,” she said.  “I love making a positive difference to people’s lives alongside a team of professional, caring and fun-loving staff.”
